14/08/2008 Konica Minolta Win Carousel National Classic
Following Konica Minolta's recent success at the Carousel Classic. The Konica Minolta
team is back on form and especially motivated ahead of this weekend's racing. On
Saturday the team will be lining up on the start of the EPR Randfontein Cycle Challenge.
Saturday will be a hard race for the team as the course is difficult in the closing
kilometers; also the wind can often be a factor in this race.
On Sunday the team will be at the Vodacom Tour of Soweto. "Our real focus is on
Sunday" said Van Heerden "It's one of the biggest races on the calendar and we have
heard that a lot of changes have been implemented since 2007, the traffic control
should be good and I hope the race will be a safe one.
The Team on the weekend will consist of; Christoff Van Heerden, Herman Fouche, Travis
Alan, Pieter Seyffert, Dennis Van Niekerk and Mauritz Faber. Michelle Corbett will
be racing in the junior woman's category.
Roy Masikane will be racing with the team in his first outing this weekend. Roy
recently won his age group category at SA National Duathlon Championships in June.
He will be joining the team until the end of the season.
"Roy is one of the most talented black cyclists in SA" said team manager Robertson
"I've worked closely with him over the last few months and I've seen big changes
in his cycling, he was the first black rider to spend time at the UCI centre in
Potchestroom earlier in the year, its' good to have him on the team with us as this
opportunity means a lot to him"
