25/05/2009 Michelle Corbett takes elite woman by surprise
Konica Minolta's junior star Michelle Corbett surprised everyone in the Bela-Bela
Classic on Saturday by winning the Elite woman's category despite the fact that
she was competing as junior with restricted gears.
With the race being fast from the outset the pace proved too quick for an escape
to take place and the bunch stayed together until the sprint finish.
Michelle's turn of speed in the last 100 meters caught everyone off guard including
race favourites Cherise Taylor and Chrissie Viljoen from MTN.
The result will be a big confidence booster for the talented junior who is currently
preparing for the junior world championships.
"We knew that Saturdays race course would suite Michelle perfectly as the race is
always fast and flat" said team manager Robertson. "With Yolandi Du Toit giving
some guidance to Michelle in the race, everything worked out perfectly for her in
the finale".
