13/10/2010 Team bizhub bolstered for classics
The Team bizhub women's professional cycling team received a timely boost for the
end-of-season classics with two of their overseas riders joining them in the past
week.
Britain's Catherine Williamson, 28, and Norway's Linn Torp, 33, arrived in the country
over the past few days with the former making an immediate impact in her first race
on Sunday - finishing second from a three-man breakaway group in the Rand Water
Race for Victory in the south of Johannesburg.
Williamson, who sprinted to third overall in the Pick n Pay Cape Argus Cycle Tour
in March, rode the European season during the South African winter as a member of
the British national team.
She raced in support of Emma Pooley and Elizabeth Armitstead at the recent UCI World
Road Championships in Australia - setting up the final move on the last climb.
The British all-rounder said she was contracted for the full year and had already
committed herself in March to return for the second half of the season - which culminates
in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge at the back end of November.
She said she has not yet had the time to sit down with team principal John Robertson
and the rest of the management team to discuss her role within the squad. "I believe
a couple of new girls have been signed, among them a sprinter, so I’ll have to wait
and see."
Williamson said she "tapered very nicely" for the Worlds and was in very good shape.
"I'm hoping to keep my form for the next couple of months and perhaps win a race.
I know the 94.7 is the big one for the team."
